New Yahoo page format?

I just logged into some of my groups and find a new page format.  Then I tried to refresh my groups with PGO and got an Invalid Page Format error.  Is it me, or is PGO choking on the new pages?

If it's PGO, bummer you have more work ahead of you, again.

I second that!

A couple of hours ago all fine, now with new look groups format and messages are giving invalid page format.

Yep. Me too!!  :(

PGO download worked fine yesterday but all messages today failed with the dreaded "Invalid page format" error message.

The new look Yahoo page displayed today looks cute but Wilson is going to need time to figure out what changes they have made and to write a new version of PGO to patch the differences.

Yes, me too. PGO no longer works with the new yahoo format. Which I think is horrible, too much wasted space, poor font choices, and bad human interface.

I digress, The worst of it is that PGO "thinks" it has DLed the messages. That is to say that the messege count (number) is retrieved and updated but there is no "data" (text).

Hi Guys,

Yes, this will require a patch. I will email everyone when its ready.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Wow! Thanks for the heads-up on this, Manfred. Resetting the message numbers in group settings wasn't a big deal, but if you hadn't commented on this, I might not have ever noticed! Thanks

Hi Manfred,

Thats news to me. All I get is "Invalid page". It won't let me DL anything.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Hi Wilson,
I think that was his point. With the new Yahoo page format, at some level PGO 'thinks' it is downloading the messages (and thus it updates the msg counter). But in reality, no messages are downloaded. Apparently there's a bug in pgo that allows the counter to update even when the response is 'invalid page format' error.

Hi, Yes that is correct I observe that the message count is updated yet those messages are not retrieved.

I guess one needs to manually reset all counts to the last real message or risk missing a few.

By the way, I do not get an "invalid page " error message. I'm using version .28

Manfred, I'm also using .28. What error message do you get? Here's a portion of my log:

Hi David,

Under normal circumstances, its not a bug. Basically PGO is telling you that it has attempted to DL a message but couldn't. Normally, you might get that error for one message & then be able to DL the rest. What would you want the message number counter to be then? If PGO ignored it, it'd show the real message number - 1 (or however many bad messages there were).

The situation we have now is unusual & PGO was not designed to deal with it.

Cheers,

Wilson.

I see that now. And this particular situation is doubly unusual since pgo is still able to retrieve the number of messages from yahoo, despite the new page layout. Who woulda ever anticipated that?!

It uses parsing algorithms. Anything thats stayed the same on Yahoo will still work. I guess the way that total message numbers are displayed hasn't been changed.

Wilson.

I can deal with waiting on a new patch - I'm in no big hurry.

What I cannot deal with is the new format!!! I own / moderate six groups - and I'm subbed to a plethora more. I do not get all of my groups via email - the volume is too high. The look is way to distracting - too much un-needed "junk". This has me seriously considering moving my groups to a BB system - only problem is that I don't know how to set one up!

Hi Tammy,
With PGO, there's little reason to use the yahoo interface, other than to post or review web content such as files and photos. I've been listening to folks grumble about the new interface in a couple of my groups (yes, it's pretty awful!), but I can't help but to feel relieved that I have pgo as my primary method of interacting with my groups.
My 2 cents...
