Hi Wilson, I just moved PGOffline to a new hard drive on the same computer.  At the same time, as part of the move, I upgraded PGOffline to 3.0.51.  Now the re-registration menu that used to be in the Help Menu ("Auto Registration") is gone.

I did the upgrade because of getting error messages - so perhaps I shouldn't have been so hasty to do an upgrade as I'm still getting the error messages.  The error messages are similar; they always end with "The specified module could not be found" but say different things like "Log file write error" and "Error during create connection to database".

I have another question too, about the directory for PGOffline:

You mentioned in post 643.0, that new versions of PGOffline install to a different default directory than versions before 2.5.061.  Well I did have a version older than that.  In any case, I pointed the new version to the custom directory where I've always kept PGOffline, instead of the default.  I hope I'll still be able to keep using this custom directory.

Using Windows 2000 SP4.

Your insight is appreciated.

Hi Debby,

Are you getting the nag screen at startup?  If not then you are already registered.

Regarding where PG Offline currently resides... good question. It *should* be where you put it.

The first thing to check is where it really is. Do a search for

pgoffline25.exe

If you find more than one copy, which has the later 'Date Modified' field in Windows Explorer?

Thats the one you should be running. Now check the screen icon you use to start PG Offline. Right click on it and choose Properties. One of the displayed fields should be the folder or path of the file being executed. Is it the folder you expect i.e. the folder with the latest 'Date Modified' ?

Cheers,

Wilson.

Thanks, Wilson.

Looks like I'm still registered - there is no nag screen.

I searched the whole computer and found only one pgoffline25.exe - in the custom directory K:\PGOffline where it should be.

Normally I run PGO from a QuickLaunch shortcut.  The mod date and path are correct in the QL shortcut properties.  Just in case of a problem with the shortcut, I just tried running PGO from the original, but am still getting the same error messages.

Don't know if this helps, but this is the sequence in which I did things:

1. Copied PGOffline directory (and other stuff) from the old hard drive to a temporary location on a different drive. Did NOT ever run PGOffline from this location.

2. Removed the old drive, put in the new drive, assigned it the same letter as the old, copied the stuff (including PGO) from the temporary location back onto the new drive using the same directory assignments as before.

3. Ran PGO from the new location.  No error messages appeared the first few times I ran it; the error messages didn't start until a few days later*.  Then I did the upgrade to v3.  It's possible something went wrong in the upgrade install i.e. I might have interrupted it to start it all over again. I wish my memory was clearer on this.

*The odd thing is that the error messages started after I hadn't even used PGO for several days. I did use Explorer in that time though (v6). Maybe it has to do with that?

Hi Debby,

I can't help wondering if maybe something got left behind on your old drive. When you install stuff on Windows it makes a record of where it expects things to be. If you delete or move these things then it gets its panties in a bunch. What we need to do is identify what it thinks is gone and re-install those items.

When you get an error next time can you take a screenshot of it and email it to me?

Thanks,

Wilson.
