I've just upgraded my PC to Vista Home Premium and I'm have a few issues getting pgoffline running again.

I encountered the missing "DHTML Editing Component" and installed the software from Microsoft.  Now PGOFFLINE will at least startup.  On startup, I get a "This is an unregistered copy of PG Offline.  Evaluation period is expired" message.  I click OK and PGoffline comes up.  I selected the database file with my groups and I see them just fine.  If I try to update the groups or try to update the registration, I get a "Copy protection check error! Please contact your  technical support".  PGoffline will quit responding soon after this message is posted.

I did a search of Google for this message and there was a pointer to the old forum where this question was brought up, but I seem to find that message on the new forum, so I guess it got lost in the shuffle.  Has anyone else seen this message and gotten around it?  I tried disabling the Microsoft UAC(User Acount Control) but that didn't seem to help.  I've been without PGoffline for too long and I miss it!!!!!!

Below is what I could find using Google search.  No resolution of the "Copy Protection Check Error".

Copy protection check error

I have Vista upgrade and cannot get PGoffline to accept a registration.  When I start PG it says that it is an unregistered copy and opens the program.  When I try to use the download feature I get a copy protection check error.  It also gives me that when I click on regestraion in the Help menu.

solutions?

Hi Lorrie,

You will have to re-register if you've moved to Vista.
Using your old details and reg code you should be able to use the online re-registration function.

1) From the Help menu choose 'Auto Registration'.
2) Fill in the UserName, Company, e-mail fields & Old Individual Registration Number fields.
3) Choose 'Get New Individual Registration Number ', (not 'Get Individual Registration Number ')
4) Write down the Reg code displayed on a piece of paper. That way if your PC crashes & you need to re-install you will know what your code is.

If you still have a problem please send me a screenshot of the registration screen with your details filled in BEFORE you click 'Get New Individual Registration Number ' and then send me a screenshot of what happens after (assuming you get an error).

Cheers,

Wilson.

Hi Michael

I have recently been through this same process, got the same errors and hopefully can get the same solution for you.

First question though. What version of Access are you running? There may be some additional steps we need to take for Office2007 versions but we can discuss that after

In the meantime these are the steps I took.

1. Load PGOffline
2. Re-register process (follow Wilson's steps for this)
3. Use "New database" and connected to a copy of the old db (or you can copy the old version over top of the one created at install of PGO)
4. Re-register again (again follow Wilson's steps)

Fingers crossed all is working.

Another tip is about the crash that some users have experienced with PGOffline in XP and Vista (me included). As Wilson has mentioned elsewhere in the forums this is a Windows Control / Visual themes issue. In Vista go:
1. Start Menu
2. Find PGOffline app in application list
3. Right click and Select Properties
4. Select Compatability tab
5. Tick "Disable Visual Themes"
6. Click Apply and then close

You hopefully now have a working copy of PG Offline that is rock solid in its performance.

Let me know how you get on and if neccessary I will un-install and go through the process again myself to capture exact details

Cheers

Justin,

I appreciate the assistance.  I found a fairly simple solution.  I had originally tried disabling the UAC in Vista, but hadn't rebooted.  Big mistake.  After disabling UAC and rebooting, I haven't had any more problems with PGOffline.  I was able to get my new registration code.  I also don't get the annoying "Allow/Deny" messages Vista was always popping up.

I've been having the "Visual Themes" problem in XP and now in Vista.  I've decided to just live with it.  What I've found is that as long as the number of messages doesn't scroll past the the current window I never have a crash.  If I forget to download messages for a few days or if a topic gets unusually "hot" I see the problem, otherwise I don't have to worry.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Great to hear it is all working for you

The change for visual themes makes the app rock solid and never crashes (as you say it is were the window overflow occurs). I have yet to see any difference visually but the crash has gone by "clicking the switch". Could be worth a try if nothing else and I would love to know if you see any difference either once the setting is changed.

Cheers

Justin
