Hi
I downloaded and tried out the trial version of PGO.  I noticed I could not forward or send email, but I thought it was just the trial version that blocked these features.  Now I've purchased the program and I still cannot send or forward email.  Without these features the program is useless to me.  I also downloaded my Yahoo member list, but I cannot find it within the program.  Can anyone help me?

Hi Darinda,

Have a look in File--> Options--> Mail.

In order to use the built in client you need to know your SMTP server name from your mail provider or you can choose (in the same window) to use your normal mail client. Check the box marked 'Use external mail client' and click on the button marked 'Select'. Navigate to the exe file of your mail client and select it. E.g. my mail client is Outlook and it is located in C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/OFFICE11/. This is the method I use & it works well.

PG Offline downloads the user list to perform statistical functions (View--> Statistics Builder). It is not designed to run a mailing list. If you wish to mail your members I think you can do that from the Management interface within the Yahoo groups site. You can definitely download a readable list of members email address from the Yahoo groups site (Members-->Export). Obviously you need to be the group owner to access these facilities.

Cheers,

Wilson.

I am also having problems with this. Despite in the options selecting "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird>thunderbird.exe" as the external email client when I tried to forward PGOffline gave me errors about sending to the SMTP server. I cleared this field in the options and ignored the warning dialog and still I got errors, I was expecting it to launch a new mail message in Thunderbird.

I've just updated to PGOffline 3.0.84. What I get now is nothing at all. I select forward from the context menu and there is no observable activity of any sort.

I did wonder if PGOffline was trying to invoke Thunderbird as if it was Outlook so I did some Googling to check there command lines to see if it might be possible to create a wrapper application. Whilst looking through this forum I noticed a number of threads about the external email client. In one it is suggested that PGOffline will use the default client registered with Windows (XP in my case). If this is so why is it necessary to select a client executable in the options?

I also found a message where the registry mailto shell key was mentioned. In mycase it's,

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe\" -osint -compose \"%1\""

I've tried deselecting the external email client  option and put some nonsense in the SMTP server name but still when I select to forward a message noting happens. Looks like it's completely broken.

Where are the options stored? Perhaps they need cleaning out or tidying up?

Well when I say nothing the message list window does "twitch" as if the program is trying to do something in the background but failing to do so. If I was to take a guess I'd say it was trying to shell out to thunderbird and assuming that had worked rather than trapping any error and that the shell out goes wrong.

Hi,

I have installed Thunderbird and tried to have it as my 'External Client'.

I get the same as you. It flickers and seems to not be doing anything.

Can you mail me details of your operating system:

Thanks,

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3

Intel Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 2.99 GHz, 1.99 GB of RAM

Mozilla Thunderbird version 3.1.9

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Thunderbird/3.1.9

As a check I used the mailto\shell\open to build a command line as follows,

U:\Chris>"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -osint -compose "to='whitecf@bcs.org.uk',subject='Mail from command line',body='This message was initiated from a command shell.'"

This launched a Thunderbird message looking exactly as I'd expect. I tested that both without and then after launching Thunderbird directly so the command itself looks good.

Can I presume PGOffline is also using the registry key directly and not messing around trying to be clever?
