I just run across PG Offline and installed it. Would be great if this runs - want to download a over 30'000 post group, and also actual traffic seems to be more comfortable than with thunderbird.

But I do not get it to run! Have the group list in the left pan, username and password correctly entered, in the settings choosed from 1 to last. On marking the group I want download and then klicking Start, it came once to "Receive message 1", then after some minutes nothing happening - "Time out, Receive stop." On further trials "Request numer off messages", then also nothing happening, then also "Time out. Receive stop."

Is on WXP home, with broadband connection used mainly with firefox and thunderbird.

Any idea what I do wrong or could do better?

Today I came a bit further, but still not to downloads. In the meantime I had tried another downloader (forgotten the name and already deleted), which worked for 3 x 25 posts downloads. But it listed them (the 25 posts) each as a single html file!

Now if I should arrive that PGOffline downloads, does it do this also - each post a single html-file? That would not be of use for me.

What I get now is "Error: Invalid page format", which I have seen has given several problems already for others. I have demo version 47. The group which I'm most interested in is techs4reality. I was not able to dl a single post from this and 2 other groups with PGOffline till now.

In one group it comes to counting the posts available, in the other not.

PG Offline works with IE not Firefox. You must login at least once to your group using IE (to set cache information) or you must disable feature "Skip Authorisation" in File--> Options--> Workflow.

Thanks for the quick answer! But didn't help. First I went to group with IE, quit, and then started PGO and activated skip authorization. Same result, just with "authorization skiped" in left lower panel.

Then went out of PGO, restarted it, put counter for message dl at 1 and deactivated "skip authorization". Result:

24.11.2006 03:11:25 >  Set group's info (Techs4reality)
24.11.2006 03:11:25 >  Authorization started
24.11.2006 03:11:28 >  Authorization accomplished
24.11.2006 03:11:28 >  Request number of messages
24.11.2006 03:11:30 >  Number of messages : 33270
24.11.2006 03:11:30 >  Receive message : 1
24.11.2006 03:11:31 >  Error : Invalid page format.
24.11.2006 03:11:31 >  Receive message : 2
24.11.2006 03:11:33 >  Error : Invalid page format.
and so on.

No success. Another idea?

Hmmm... its not an authorization problem as you don't need authorization for that group. Its public. I tried it & I can download it.

Best thing is to contact me at

wilson.logan (at) ntlworld.com

and I'll send you some stuff we can use to diagnose the problem.

Cheers,

Wilson.
