Digest?

I'm trying to make sense of the digest format.  What is the point of the top section?  I see a listing of posts.  They are not hyperlinked down.  Without that, what's the use of this listing?

Its a condensed list of subjects, authors, etc. This is how the Yahoo digests are displayed. People expect to see it.

I admit it would be more usefull if hyperlinked but are you ever going to want to do that? If you only want to see some messages, why not just select the messages you want to view as digest by holding down the CTRL key in the Message list pane & then view that selection as digest?

Of course, I know,  just had no idea what to do with the top half of the digest.  Didn't make a lot of sense, still doesn't but if yahoo does it and people expect it...  only for what?

I think doing a search and displaying the results indigest form is nice, hiding the quotes, but that upper section just seems useless.
