Error : The system cannot find the file specified.

Several times today I have received this error when trying to download messages.  I first received it using .037 in non-cache mode.  I came here to search for any messages regarding the error and saw that .038 was out.  I downloaded and upgraded, turned on cache, and the error went away.  However, I've got it several times with .038 now in cache mode.  It has always occurrs following an error indicating a timeout or DNS error.

Restarting PGO does not help.  Changing groups does not help.  Once I thought rebooting the PC helped, but now I'm not so sure if that was just a coincidence. A different time, rebooting did not help.  A few times a tried a different group, and that did not help.  Once I tried a different group and it did help.  So I'm confused.

With such inconsistency, the only thing I can come up with is that it's a DNS problem, but with a different error message.  My dialup ISP seems to be having DNS problems lately where it takes two tries to connect to a site.  When error occurs, the message appears very quickly after pressing the start button.  The only problem I have with accepting the DNS explanation is that I have been able to reach the Yahoo! site through my browser while PGO is giving me the error with no problems at all.

I'm not sure if this is a bug, or if it's just me.  Thought I'd post in case anyone else is trying to figure out the same thing.  Or if someone knows exactly what the error means.

Thanks,
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,

I had a European guy report the same thing but in his case it was due to using a very old version.

Please let me know if this problem continues.

In fact, if it happens again, can you get me a screenshot?

Cheers,

Wilson.

I got caught up with all my groups yesterday, and today I've only ran into the problem once.  I didn't get a screenshot (read your message too late), but I did extract today's activity from the log.  I posted that at http://www.raineforest.com/pgo050517.txt .  The trouble started right at noon -- a little more than halfway through that file.  I had just been cut-off from my ISP when PGO tried to check for messages.

After a few tries, I shut down PGO and restarted it. Prior to the restart, I checked to verify that I could still reach the groups and messages through my web browser, and I could.  When I tried it again after the restart, it took a full minute to get authorization according to the log.

5/17/2005 12:19:20 PM >  Authorization started
5/17/2005 12:20:20 PM >  Authorization accomplished

Somewhere in that minute I had clicked on the STOP thinking it was hung up or something.  After I noticed it had stopped, I clicked REFRESH, and it took off normally again.  It has been running fine ever since.

What type of a screenshot would you like?  It doesn't have a pop up or anything, just spits out the error messages at the bottom and stops.

Let me know if you need more.

Thanks,
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,

A full screen shot would be fine. You can do that with the Prnt Scrn button on your keyboard. It sends a copy of the screen to the clipboard. You then just do CRTL+V in a document like Word or an HTML email in Outlook & the screen shot is pasted in.

Cheers,

Wilson.

I just emailed a screenshot.  I'm currently in the error state.
