Cannot retrieve group listing...

OK, I've figured it out, and I can reproduce this problem every time.
If you are a member of 40 or 80 yahoo groups, PGO will not allow you to get a list of groups;
3.4.2005 03.09.07 >  Get group's list
3.4.2005 03.09.08 >  Error : Invalid page format.

39, 41, 79, 81, no problems.  but at 40 or 80, it is a no go.
I havent tried 10, 20, 30 etc, but it may be worth looking into, perhaps the reason being that yahoo lists 10 groups per page, and if it sees  a full page and tries to jump to the next (nonexistant) page,  it fails?

Sorry if this has already been found, I searched to see if anyone else had found it, but I wasn't all too sure which search keys to use, found nothing related.

I've just tried this with 140 groups & sure enough... it chokes.
Congratulations on a nice piece of detective work.

this is not just if there are a lot of groups added into PGOffline.

I have 2 databases, one has 8 groups, the other 4.  I just tried updating today after a couple months, it was kind of hit and miss.

This is a different problem that we're looking at.

Can I get some info from you about it? I'm talking to different people with this problem to see if I can find a common element.

Can you tell me what OS you have & where you're located? Also, which groups are you having difficulty with? Do you have trouble only with older posts or all posts, even very recent ones? Is the problem intermittant or constant?

I'm using winXP.  I'm in Nevada.  It's any posts.  And a constant problem.
I have 2 databases, one about scooters about 8 groups, one about plants 4 groups.  The problem occures with both of them.  So I'll give the info on the smaller once since that will be easier.

I will try creating a new database with just one of the groups that's not working and see what happens.

...never mind, someone had replied to an old post in the update section with a typo in the topic, 2.5.5 instead of 2.5.005... I'll try the single group thing now.

So I created the new database and added one of the groups that didnt work (SkaMariaPastora).  It retrived up to msg 19 from the begining when it crashed giving an administer disconnected from database type error, i couldn't copy it because the 'send error report now' window poped up 5 seconds later and i lost the msg.
So I reopened the new database and it retrieved the messages just fine.
Then i opened the old database and instead of clicking refresh i just clicked the group that didn't work and clicked start, it worked fine.  I went to the scooter database.  I clicked the last group, instead of the "Invalid page format" error it said I needed to be a member of that group, I must have unsubscribed from it.  I went to yahoo and subscribed and it let me see the msgs in yahoo.  I tried to start it again but it save the same need to be a member msg.  I tried another group that hadn't been updated, it worked.  I shut down pg offline and reopened it and tried the group i just signed up for, after 19 msgs it gave me a pgoffline error msg in a little window before pgoffline crashed and i couldn't copy the error.  I reopened it and it retrieved that group fine.  Then to test something I deleted the group and readded it and refreshed, it gave me the same error msg then crashed, i still couldn't copy it.  I was going to do a print screen next time, but when I opened it and clicked list to readd the group, it said

even the SkaMariaPastora that I was able to catch up.   I tried creating a new database and then was
about to add a group to test it, but in this fresh new database, it won't let me get the group list:

hmm, the original problem that was posted to this board was getting the group list i just noticed.  So I suppose the "invalid page format" error relates to the group list and the specific group listings just the same...
Untill now i hadn't bothered clicking the 'list' button untill I was testing things.  The problem went away with the groups and the list button at the same time and came back at the same time.  Odd.  I'll keep trying and see if it will start working again.

I had the same problem yesterday, I don't use IE as my browser so maybe the cookie expired or something, because I unchecked skip authorisation (File/Options/Workflow), restarted PGO, it authorised OK got all my groups (6) messages OK.

I then turned authorisation off  and its still working fine today.

The one that timed out usually says Invalid page format.  All the groups that didn't give the error were already updated so didn't download anything new.

Nope, I tried loging in with IE and no change, with it skipped or not.  I reopened PG Offline and tried both ways, still no change.

For what its worth, I set up a new database, joined Madami-Vento,
had to authorise to get my groups list, then turned off authorisation and have now happily downloaded all messages up to 424.

What this proves, I don't quite know.

Gavin,

I believe that this problem is related to regional variations on how Yahoo renders their messages. It seems the only conclusion. This problem affects many OS's, many groups, but only a few people & I have been able to  DL groups using the same OS & version of PGO as others who could not. As you have seen yourself today.

I'm willing to hear other theories but I think this one fits the facts best.

I don't hink that this is just for the Groups listings.  I have a group (the TI-99 OLUG) that receives this error message when trying to download messages.

Well, right now I can't even add new groups since it won't get a group list no matter what.
Though Yahoo JUST updated its page format entirely.  So I don't think it's going to work for anyone for the moment.
