lockup with some searches

Hi Wilson,
I'm using 2.5.10
In one of my groups, some searches cause PGO to lock up when I begin to read and/or sort the list of messages that's found as a result of the search. I've done a little bit of debugging and here's what I discovered:

1) this only occurs in one group (EQ6). Perhaps coincidentally, that group's folder icon in the left pane does not have an asterisk and the groupname font is black, while the others are blue and have asterisks (btw, just what does that mean anyway?)

2) the only search terms that seem to fail are those that are part of a url with slash mark. For example, in the link: www.domain.com/secondterm/index.htm
a search for the word "secondterm" will cause a lock-up. Interestingly, I can perform a similar search in my other groups without a problem.

Note: Upon your advice, I re-loaded this entire group a few weeks ago to fill in the new email field, so this is not related to the null-field problem I had last month.

Hi David,

Thanks for the full explanation. Can you tell me which message number in EQ6 causes this problem?

I'll have to join EQ6 as I'm not a member & therefore cannot load it in my PGO.

Cheers,

Wilson.

No particular message number(s). Try searching for digilander. I recall that message 207 has this term.

It could be a glitch in my database. If you can't reproduce, I'll guess I'll d/l EQ6 again. It only contains 4k or so msgs.

So what's up with the asterisk on the folder icons? I tried the Help file but had no clue what to look under.

Re the * and blue vs black font, I think the black means that you have read all the messages in that group whereas blue & asterisk means there is at least one unread message in there.

Are you using XP?
If so do you have your display properties set to the  Windows Classic Style and not the Windows XP Style?
I had all sorts of searches crashing until I changed that, something to do with VB.

Ok, thanks Gavin! I hadn't a clue. Now it makes sense.

No, I'm using Windows ME.

After further testing, I realize I can reproduce the problem in any group. Wilson has also reproduced the problem and will have Alex take a look. I'm surprised this hasn't come up before...

Try this fix:

Seems to be behaving itself now!
Thanks,
David

David,

Keep an eye out... 2.5.014 has the new 'Import Attachments' code in it & its not totally tested yet so watch out for...err... undocumented features.

Cheers,

Wilson.

will do. The reason I didn't volunteer to beta that was because none of my groups allow attachments.

I dont get my groups as individual emails so that's me knackered.

So what prompted you to add the import attachments feature?

Its been on the back burner for an age. One group had been waiting for it for... oh... nearly a year but it was quite a big job & other features tended to take priority.

Cheers,

Wilson.

This was happening to me too.  Just downloaded the patch and it seems to be working now.
