One of my groups changed its name.  How do I keep the old messages in the archive and add new ones?

Hi Linda,

Quick question... this group name change... is it just a name change or is it an entirely new group i.e. have the messages numbers restarted at 1 or are they just continuing as before?

Thanks,

Wilson.

lklawrie

They are just continuing from before.  Just changed their name, slightly.

Figured it out.  And downloaded the messages since their name change.

What did you do? I was going to suggest changing the name of the group in the database file. It appears in only 3 places and is any easy fix if you have MS Access.

Cheers,

Wilson.

You need to change it in four places.

You need to open the data base in Access.  Change it in the entry in tblGroups and then change the name of the tables it's in.

tblygr_Name
tblygr_Name_Att
tblygr_Name_Att

and that seems to have worked.

Hi Linda,

You mean:

tblygr_Name
tblygr_Name_Att
tblygr_Name_Mmb

Well done though. I didn't realise you were so technical.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Yes, those were the ones I meant.

I suppose one learns something over the years or gets lucky.

Wilson,
I just registered and so far love PF Offline.

One of my groups will be changing its name in the next day or two. My thought is to keep the posts already downloaded under the present name and set up a new group under the revised name.

I guess I could export and then import later if I wish to do so?

I would want to start with the last message I downloaded. Is there anything I need to do manually?
Thanks
Mary

Hi Mary,

When your group changes name, you'll need to set the first message to download field in the new group you've set up.

You can setup the new group before it exists. Just click on Groups--> New Group to get into the New Group window. Enter the new group name. Now click on the  Download Settings tab and you will see a field called "Start Download from the message#". When you know what the first message number of the new group is, you can set that field & it will start getting messages from that message number onwards.

Cheers,

Wilson.
