Have you seen PGO-2-GIO?

It transfers groups you've downloaded using PGO to groups.io

There is a video of me using an early version here:

Wilson,

Nearly missed your posting with the link.

I can see this being a BIG HELP with a sub-group being the archive.

From your YT vid, your uploader looks as if the original message posting date & time stamp is used.  This is a BIG HELP as well.

On my end, I would never upload the photos in their current state.  The file sizes are HUGE.  Using a GroupsIO FREE account, this is limited to a mere 1GB max of space.   I've taken all of the YG photos and brought them from the 5Mb size down to a mere 240kb size at 1024x768 resolution.  In other words, the Photos in our group were HUGE at 679Mb and now a mere 154Mb while retaining the image in a quality manner.

Our groups file section was a mess to begin with. :)  So, I plan on getting things organized with titles that actually reflect the content.  97% of our links are dead.

The owner to our group left in 2009 and the last moderator a few years later.  Our group of 2,973 members was left on auto-pilot.

This YG going dark in mid-December is actually a mixed blessing in disguise o fix all the things broken in our group.

As for your PGO-2-GIO make a specific thread at the top as a STICKY.  Then reply in this thread to look for it. :)

Its still a bit buggy.

Attachments matching from whats in the email to what was saved.

Stuff like apostrophes in file names (who the **** would do that?).

Anyway... a small amount to do yet.

Cheers,

Wilson.

The good thing on my end, no attachments.  The original owner had that option off.   Yes, some folks would like the attachments included in the postings.

Yes, those punctuation markings got weird when the internet went to HTML-5 and odd characters were used to supplement them.

Maybe that chart above could help get those buggy things to be gone. :)

Wiki shows the whole mess of them and at what stages in HTML code they came into play.

Even if you ended up doing a FIND ALL and REPLACE ALL with either a space or nothing, the apostrophe would be understood by the reader.

Wilson,

OK, I've prepared in advance a sub-group on GroupsIO for when the PGO-2-GIO becomes available.

For us, I made the sub-group PUBLIC.  Then made only OWNER and MODS able to have access to it.  This way, it is READABLE to anyone, not modifiable.  Thus, the data will be preserved like it was ripped from Yahoo. :)

I may need to make a total of 4 sub-groups because there are/were 4 groups with different functions with out membership.  Odd, but that's how it was setup way back when.

On another note, the messages in the Yahoo Groups has SPAM and porn ads galore.  Is there a way to find these in PGO and delete them from the archive BEFORE moving them to GIO ???  Is there a fast find and so-called destroy of this adware???  Yahoo & AOL toss in their ads too.  Can these be stripped out as well???  I did this with the CSV export to Excel, but how can this be edited or eliminated in the PGO software???

Are there YT vids or a wiki help section for this ???

Search & sort are your friend.

Search to identify rogue members, note these, go back to main window, and then sort by author, then delete.

Thats what I'd do.

BMaverick

Wilson,

Thanks a bunch!

Other than the junk postings, how does one purge the Yahoo & AOL ads that are TAGGED at the end of messages then ???

BMaverick

That is much more problematic.

PGO's prime directive is to not change anything that it downloads.

You can imagine the consequences of people editing PGO messages and then sharing a PGO archive with edited messages being passed off as the originals from Yahoo.

So we never created an edit facility.

Cheers,

Wilson.

BMaverick

Wilson,

No problem. :)

Guess Yahoo will still be sticking around in some capacity then.
