When I try to download Attachments, Files, Photos and Links in my Yahoo groups all I get is "File failed to download..." on each one.

It creates the folders, but then gets an error on every file.

How can I get this to work?  Desperately want to download my groups before they disappear!

Thanks!

Wilson Logan

There appears to be some issue with Yahoo.

I have been downloading Files & Photos no problem.

But not attachments...

Others report getting attachments.

Maybe ask someone else to try PGO and get them to download your Files, Photos, etc.

The good news is that download is fast.  600Mb in about 20 mins.

BigGuy

Thank you Wilson...

Is this something new that appears to be related to this change they are making or has this been a known issue for some time?

I made several attempts, but the only thing I am able to get is the messages without attachments.

Also, if conversations are downloaded but the attachments are missing, is there a way to reattach the attachments without redownloading the conversations.  There are two groups I am interested in and between them there are about 45k messages.  It took a few hours to download them.  I could start over but I'll probably get the same results... no attachments.  But wondering if there is a way to give it a try without starting over.

I personally haven't tried this but Larry says:

At the Yahoo website, attachments are sort of available. Sometimes you get an error and have to re-try. (There are a couple of different errors showing up, maybe reflecting the enhanced workload due to the closure announcements.)

In order to successfully download attachments, I am practicing the following (tedious) scheme, but it is working.

In Groups, select messages 1-20
Click Start
Note the list of messages where attachments did not download.
Delete those from the database
Go to Groups, reset the download to 1-20 (or first failure to 20)
Click Start
If all are successful, go to Groups, set messages to 21-40, else repeat above procedure.

There are typically three errors per 20 messages. This scheme is getting me there by only having to deal with a few errors on each cycle. Minimizes the chance of me making a mistake.

If your group is larger you could scale the numbers accordingly.

Like delete 1 - 1000 and retry.

Or 1 to 10000 and retry.

BigGuy

Thank you Wilson.  May be helpful to some, but not sure for me with ~45k messages.  Maybe I'll give it a try but it doesn't look like I'll be able to get this done.

You only need to get the attachment once.

IIRC PGO writes a reference for it into the database even if it doesn't get it.

This means that if you can get the attachment and put it in the attachments folder PGO will see it.

You could start multiple instances of PGO and assign each instance a chunk to download.

Say 9 instances with 1 - 5000,  5001 - 10000, 10001 - 15000 and so on.

Just run them all simultaneously.

When they finish, if you haven't got all the attachments, go again.

Make a copy of your original database first. You will have to go back to that once you have all the attachments.

Cheers,

Wilson.

BTW before about 15:00 GMT I was getting NO attachments.

Now I am getting ALL attachments!

Might be time to strike while the iron is hot!!!

BigGuy

All good Wilson!  It worked this time.  I started it around 03:00 GMT and everything downloaded!

Thank you for your help!

What will happen to PGO - YG?

Wilson Logan

PGO soldiers on as a Facebook Group downloader and, of course, a method to read old YG! archives.

Cheers,

Wilson.
