PGO 4.0.866
Windows Ultimate 7 SP1 x64

I installed the trial 3 days ago.  For one or two days everything worked fine.  Now I can launch the program, but I cannot click or select anything in the PGO window.  I can't even drag the window to move it.  Can't minimize it, maximize it or close it.  The only way I can get rid of the window is to kill the process.  The stuff in the window looks normal.  But it's as if it has a sheet of glass over it and nothing I do with the mouse causes any selection or action in the window.

It worked fine for the first day or two.  Then kaput.

Apparently the trial day counter is still ticking away though... unfortunately.

Maybe I should try to reinstall?  If I reinstall, will I lose the already downloaded data, the configuration that is already set up or the rest of my trial period?

Hi,

You can uninstall and reinstall without affecting anything you've downloaded or your settings.

All that data is in the database of downloads which is unaffected by the uninstall procedure.

Just as a precaution you should make a copy of your data folder which will be:

C:/Users/<your_username>/Appdata/Local/PG Offline 4/

I have not encountered the problem you describe but what I have seen is that if you have a really big database or a really old computer, PGO appears to hang while it initially loads the message database.

To test this you can go to the data folder

C:/Users/<your_username>/Appdata/Local/PG Offline 4/

find the file called ygroups.db3 and temporarily rename it to ygroups-old.db3

Then start PGO which will now be unable to open a database (because we've renamed it) but if it starts and does not hang then the problem is narrowed to either:

1) Database too large
2) Machine too slow (or not enough memory)
3) Corrupt database

Cheers,

Wilson.

Thanks Wilson.  I did the test you suggested, but no luck.  It still has the same problem when I launch the program.  It doesn't seem to respond to anything I try.

I'll try a reinstall next and see what happens.

What version do you have ?

I had 4.0.866 installed.  It worked perfectly for a day or two.

I just now installed 4.0.867, but it has the same problem.

Well, this is all very strange...

Do you have Skype?  Or Team Viewer?

I'd like to do a call with you where you can share your screen with me and I can see what's happening.

My Skype ID is  evildrome.

FYI you can email me at  info (at) personalgroupware.com  to arrange the call.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Got it!  Thanks Wilson, but I got it working again.  Reinstalled a second time and now it is working again.  Don't know what the problem was, but so far so good.  If it stops working again I'll come back and we can try what you suggested.

Thanks for the help!   :D

Hmmm...  that's all very strange.

If it stops again, let me know immediately and we can arrange a call so I can see whats going wrong before it err... stops going wrong. :)

Cheers,

Wilson.

Hi Wilson... just wanted to report back my findings to ensure that I don't cause an unnecessary wild goose chase in your world.

Although I still have not found the culprit, I can confirm that today another program had the same symptom.  So the problem seems to be environmental and not related to PGO.  Have no idea what it is yet, but if I figure it out I will report that back as well...

Wilson Logan

Ok, thanks for sharing that.

I will be interested to know what the actual cause might be.

Did the other program that hung require internet connectivity?
