ActiveX connection error

I just installed Acrobat Pro and (amongst numerous other issues!) am now getting this error message from PGOffline:



Clicking "OK" progresses to:



and finally PGOffline starts but with no database open. If I try to manually open my database it gives me the initial error again and fails to open the MDB.

I've reinstalled VB6SP6 and also done a couple of Repairs on PGOffline.

The ygroups.mdb opens OK in Access 2003, although it appears to have lost all messages from one of the groups, odd but not a big deal.

Any suggestions?

Hi Peter,

This may mean that you have a corrupt MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) installation on your computer.

The latest MDAC is here:

Hi Wilson.

Well it's done it again. I'm not sure what's caused it this time, but I've tried:
Reinstall MDAC 2.8
Reinstall VB6 runtime
Reinstall JET
Install latest PGOffline 3.0.84
Reinstall MDAC 2.8SP1
Reinstall Win 2000 SP4
Reinstall Madac 2.8

No change all the way along. I still get the same messages about activeX and unable to create folder.

Any suggestions?

I despair of the way Microsoft has such chaotic way of handling the DB components.

EDIT:
I resorted to a system restore from a recent backup (only took 6 hours, yay Microsoft). Now PGO is working except .... another post.

My Vista system recently died due to some .NET update.

So, the restore worked but there's another issue?

It's done it again, and I'm not doing a system restore just to get it working this time! ???

I've once again reinstalled MDAC_TYP28.EXE, vbrun60sp5.exe, Jet and done a few repairs of PGOffline (3.0.82 as that's been the last version that everything pretty much worked for me).

If it's not VB6, not Data Access Components and not Jet, what is it? What other dependencies does PGOffline have to access the database?

Is there a difference in a completer reinstall of PGO compared to a repair?

It's not Windows update, as they stopped supporting W2K some time ago and I don't touch any automated microsoft activities.

Does Win2K have rollback points or 'Last known good configuration' ?

It does doesn't it?

Thats what I'd go for if I hadn't made any changes I wanted to keep.

No rollback, unlike XP and beyond. Last known good only applies to boot up problems I think, and it has booted up fine plenty of times since PGO turned up it's toes. Now the last known good would be todays boot.

There must be some dependencies that PGO has to MDB databases I guess. Having reinstalled Jet, VB6 & MDAC I don't know what else it is (except that it's a complete PIA!).

The message "ActiveX component can't create object" makes me wonder if there isn't some component of ActiveX that goes awry and needs fixing? I know nothing about how ActiveX works though.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

UPDATE: EUREKA - I found the solution!I followed up on my thought about ActiveX and found this at support.microsoft.com

I searched for DAO360.DLL found a copy in "Microsoft Shared ..." and did the regsvr32 thing. PGO fixed.
