Problems moving to a new operating system

Wilson,
I recently installed Windows 7 X64 so needed to move my files there from Vista. In the past I have been able to copy the whole directory from desktop to laptop with no problems. It did not work with Win 7. I only got the new info with almost nothing on it.

I did have some older exports so was able to save some downloading. However, one of the groups that was on Vista has been discontinued so cannot import it. Any ideas for getting it?

I noticed you saying on another post that the ygroups.mdb file should be large. Mine did not change in size in one directory and did in the other. When I copied that file the groups were greyed out.

When I updated PG Offline a few months ago I wound up with 2 PGO directories, one inside the other and the files seem interconnected so I cannot just move some stuff from one to the other. Maybe I should try copying all the files rather than what seems to be missing?

I hope my message is not too confusing. I know I am now.

Thanks for all your assistance.
Mary

Hi Mary,

Normally, I'd recommend just copying the ygroups.mdb file from one machine to the other. However, in your case, as things may have become confused.

Do you still the Vista machine? If so, open PG Offline on the Vista machine and Export (File--> Export to folder) all you groups as one file. Then take that file and Import (File--> Import from folder) it on the new Win7 machine. That'll take care of any issues.

You should also upgrade to the latest version 3.0.082

Only the files I have named have any size so importing or exporting as one probably will not work. for example, now the ygroups.mdb now has only 1560 kb when I have around 350,000-400,000 KB in files I have named.

I wonder what I would get if I export that ygroups file when it is so small?

P. S. Once I do get the databases named in the new setups on desktop and laptop, do you think it will work if I copy the whole shebang I saved before installing Windows 7? The version of PG Offline will be a bit older than what I now have and that might complicate things.

Hi Mary,

Yes, copy all the database files into the new folder. Just overwrite the new (empty) ygroups.mdb with the old one.

The database has not changed structure between the two versions you are using so that should work fine.

Cheers,

Wilson.
