I'm currently "playing" with PGOffline, as I want to have an offline archive of the ten Yahoo Groups I maintain. First impression: very nice!

However, when I used the search function, it searched OK, but when I went back to the original group, the program crashed  ???. Searching this board teached me that it's related to an old error with "ListView control" (whatever that is) and Windows XP Style Desktop. The workaround worked: disable windows XP style (Right Click on desktop -> Properties -> Appearance -> Windows and Buttons = Windows Classic Style). BUT: as more and more people as using XP, a solution in the next version will certainly be appreciated!!!!  :)

An additional question: Yahoo has removed all the attachments, which is well known. However, messages which originally had attachments don't show up in the software as having attachments. So, you can't see which attachments (name of the file) belonged to a certain message. Might this be interesting for a new release?

One more note: I've seen several owners of Yahoo Groups who want to move to online forums like vBulletin (me too). PGOffline can certainly help with that. Did you take a look at this subject? Just curious ...

Best regards, Edvar van Daalen

Hi Edvar,

The ListView control is provided in VB 6.0 (which is what PGO is written in). We can't change it ourselves but when a fixed version is released we will incorporate it into PGO.

Messages with attachments downloaded prior to the Yahoo cutoff show the attachments with the messages. If someone DL'd your group before the cutoff you can import the archive including attachments.

I'm understandably ambivilent about this. If you all move to phpBB or vBulletin, who's going to buy PG Offline? However, I am creating a service to move your group from Yahoo to phpBB. It will be available very soon (probably in less than a week). I had decided not to release it unless Yahoo starts charging for their service or they go bust or some other catastrophe befalls them.

Cheers,

Wilson.
