searching for numbers?

Wilson,
When I search for a number (e.g., 6008), pgo returns many messages that do not contain the number. I tried using quotes, but got the same results.

Also, there was a text string I tried to search for that gave a lot of false hits: "ABEC"

(this was in the EQ6 group)

David,

I get 14 results for 6008, all of which contain 6008.

Can you send me a screen print of what you see?

BTW you are running 2.5.014?

Cheers,

Wilson.

Hi Wilson,
I'm running 2.5.014.
Something REALLY strange is going on. My search for 6008 is coming up normal now. Also, my search for ABEC comes up normal.

BUT, I just tried searching for 608 (in EQ6 group) and got 30 results, only 23 of which include the search term! I am sending you a screenshot off-list.

David

PS: in case you're wondering, 608 and 6008 are x-refs for two different bearings used in the EQ6 mount  :)

David,

Yep, its knackered. We'll produce a fix.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Wilson,
I don't know if this is related or not, but I just did a logical search for "UK" and "mount" in my EQ6 group. However, none of the hits included "UK" in the text! Also, the messages returned were only a small subset of those with "mount" in the text.

I just tried the same search again and got a different result: this time some of the hits had both search terms, but most only had "mount"

I wonder what could be so special about the character string "UK"... ??

David,

No idea... hopefully the fix for 6008 will be the same problem as you're seing with "UK". When the fix is in I'll test specifically for these cases you've mentioned.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Hi Wilson,
I noticed that ver 17 still has the search problem... The notes didn't mention this issue, but just in case you thought it was fixed, it's not.

Hi David,

17 is an interim version to sort another problem. I needed it to introduce 'Skip Authorisation' as some people are having trouble using PGO to logon. The 'Skip Authorisation' feature uses your cached login in IE.

Alex is actually away at the moment but I expect he has this fix in hand.

Please PM or email me if this fix isn't in thew next version.

Cheers,

Wilson.

David,

Bit of a problem... It seems that numbers are from html tags for example <font color = '#176008'>. Can you try searching for

" 6008 " rather than "6008" ?

Cheers,

Wilson.

That was just an example, however, I can now I understand the false hits. I imagine adding characters will reduce, but not eliminate false hits. But now that I understand the problem, I can deal with it.

As a test, I just searched for "UK" again in my EQ6 database. I made note of the first two false hits I came across and copied the message text from the mdb file (includes html code) and pasted into WORD and did a search for UK.  As expected, message 1431 has "UK" embedded in part of the html code. But message 1474 does not, best I can tell. Can you see what's going on with that? These messages are rather old, so you should be able to use the zip file Brad posted on your server last March.

David,

Good point. Its not even in the source HTML on Yahoo. We'll check this.

Cheers,

Wilson.
