I'm not have any luck at all...PGO will not log on using the same credentials copied and pasted from either Firefox or Chrome that work.    I've never had two-factor authentication enabled, and Yahoo is not asking for a password update.    I can always log in using a browser but over several days all I get from PGO is:

Login failed. Either you have the wrong username & password OR Yahoo is requesting that you update your current password. Please login to Yahoo groups with your browser to see if Yahoo are requesting that you update your password.

I turned on the log file and it created a 227kB file - but I'm at a loss to find any indication of a failed challenge.   I see checks for old browsers, javascript enabled, etc but no indication of why my attempt to log into YG is failing.

I thought I'd enable event logging but after an attempt to get lists it's just an empty file.    Thanks for any suggestions.

Do you have an ATT email address (@att.net, bellsouth.net, sbcglobal, etc.)? They no longer work to log on with PGO.

Login checklist:

0) CHECK THE VERSION IS 897 !!  (Help (menu option) -- > Check for updates )

1) Check your login details !

2) Switch off Two factor authentication.

3) PGO uses Firefox. You can login to YG! using Chrome & it all looks fine but PGO sees a Firefox challenge page. Like “Please verify your phone number”.

The fix is to login using Firefox, complete the challenge, log out, back in again (make sure its fixed) then start PGO.

4) In a small number of cases, your ISP has a deal with Yahoo to serve a different set of pages than PGO expects (Typically AT&T account. SBCglobal, Roadrunner, etc).

If this is the case you will need to create a new YG! account with a Gmail or Hotmail account and re-join all your groups.

If you're technical you can switch on traffic logging which shows you the HTML that PGO is being served by YG.

If so,   go into Files -- > Options -- > Miscellaneous  and check the “Log traffic to file option” and create a file called traffic.txt in

C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local\PG Offline 4\traffic.txt

Then try to do one “LIST”. Then stop PGO, rename the traffic.txt to traffic.htm  and open it in a browser.

Then you can see any errors or challenges being served back to PGO from YG.

I did all that.
No two-factor

YG credentials verified by copy and pasting directly from a browser that works

I have tried both "MYACCOUNT" AND "MYACCOUNT@YAHOO.COM"  but neither works.

If I sign out of Yahoo, I can log in with Firefox by just entering my username in the first screen and my password in the second.  There is no challenge, no request for phone number.   In and out with Firefox or Chrome time after time.   Nothing with PGO.

My ISP is Comcast not one of those listed.

Do you have a known incompatibilty with Comcast?

As stated in my initial posting, I DID create a log file.  With due respect, I'd appreciate a reply that is responsive to the question I asked - how and where in this large 227KB traffic.txt file should I look for a clue about any challenge or error from YG?   It is capturing everything and it would be much more helpful if you could point to specific sections or phrases to search for that would help interpret error messages.

Thank you for the reply but I'm looking for specific information not a canned checklist.

Hi Bob,

Best thing is to start with an empty traffic file.

Do a "list"   (List option on menu bar)

Wait for it to fail.

Close PGO.

Rename the traffic.txt file to traffic.htm

Open it in any browser.

Then you can see what PGO see's when it tries to login.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Wilson,

Yes, that's what I did, several times

Based on your reply,  I deleted the original traffic.txt file and as you suggested, repeated the attempt to get a LIST,  and then closed PGO, renamed the txt file and opened it in a browser.   Just as before it is a 227KB file full of html, and probably javascript (I'm not a web programmer) and I have no idea of what it means.

There's no clear indication of an error or challenge or failure that I can see.

I am attaching the traffic.txt file, and hope you are willing to take a look for me.

Thanks,
Bob

FIXED IT!

No need for further assistance, I'm able to run the evaluation copy now.

Hi Bob,

Well done that man!  I know its not a trivial task to go through the traffic.txt rigmarole.

Can you expand on what your solution was for the benefit of others who may find themselves in the same boat?

Thanks,

Wilson.

Sure,  although it's a bit embarrassing to admit -- in fact two-factor authentication WAS turned on.    I can't remember doing it and I was never challenged to enter a phone number or reply to an authentication email as I thought it would work, all I have ever done is enter my Username and Password at the Yahoo log-in screen.   I just wasn't interpreting the Yahoo Account configuration screen correctly.

Logically that seemed to be the best possibility because you very clearly say that PGO won't work with two-factor authentication enabled.   So I went back and stared at the Yahoo Account info page a while and even though the phone number field were blank and I've never receive a challenge to log in, the little toggle switch on the right was "on" (blue).   I turned it off and voila, PGO worked!

I then got three (?) emails from Yahoo telling me:  "You have deactivated two-step verification feature for your Yahoo account.   Two-step verification is an additional layer of account security activated any time you sign in from an unrecognized device or computer."

So now it starts to become clear - the reason I didn't realize it was on is because I always access Yahoo from a "recognized" computer.    I think they way they phrase it is confusing, because I probably gave a phone number as a way to "protect your account" or something.    Why the phone number field was blank is a bit of a mystery but maybe this will help others decode the two-factor authentication method at Yahoo.

I'll add that I'm very please with PGO now that I'm able to use it to save a lot of valuable information and am waiting in the queue to buy a license so I can have full capability.  Good job Wilson!

OK Bob,

Glad to hear its working now for you.

I've sent your licence key.

Cheers,

Wilson.
