How to download old attachments

Is there any way to download attachments to emails that have previously been sent?

If I use the update attachment links in the group settings folder, download settings tab, I get an error, PGOffline freezes and Windows 7 will only let me close program or send to MS and close program.

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Greg,

"Update Attachment links"  re-writes the attachment links of already downloaded messages (or it should!).

I actually think its not a valid process anymore.

Its purpose was as a catchup. If you exported your messages & attachments the attachment link in the messages would have the path of the computer it came from.

So, e.g. if I had sent you a group with attachments when they were imported into your database the path for the attachments would have been:

C:/users/wilson/App Data/Local/PG Offline 4/Attachments/<group_name>

which of course would be wrong in your machine.

The update attachment links function would re-write them all to:

C:/users/Greg/App Data/Local/PG Offline 4/Attachments/<group_name>

but this is no longer an issue because PGO has been updated to automatically re-write attachment links on import.

The update attachment links function was a catchup to prevent you having to re-download all your attachments.

The way to download message attachments is to go back and re-download any messages with attachments.

Often its easier just to go back and re-download all messages.  Or find someone who has an archive of your group with attachments. Please feel free to ask me. I have a lot of groups downloaded.

Also, please note that PGO will not overwrite existing messages so any messages you want to re-download will need to be deleted first.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Thanks Wilson,

I've already started re-downloading the groups.  The PITA is that I have 37 groups and several have 200K+ messages.

Hi Greg,

Can I get this straight...  you need to download the messages again because you downloaded them in the past with a version of PGO which could not get attachments, is that right?

Does the version you have now 'know' which messages have attachments?  I.e. in the message list does it indicate which messages have attachments but you do not have the attachments or it simply does not report any data related to attachments until you re-download ?

Which groups are you downloading?  I have over 230 downloaded. There may be an overlap to your interests.

I have CNC groups, astronomy groups, cat groups, dog groups, train groups, car groups, plane groups, you name it...

Cheers,

Wilson.
