Title: Refresh all Groups - number of messages options
Post by: wundrbee on March 21, 2004, 01:36:43 AM
What about this scenario? Refresh all groups would have the option of downloading 250 (or whatever you specify - yahoo will only give me 250) from the first group, waiting the specified amount of time, and when it resumes it would move on the the next group. Of course, it would skip the groups that you've set up to skip.

Hi Tammi,

I can see the value in that.

Anyone else like this idea?

Cheers,

Wilson.

I think the more ways we have to try and out smart Yahoo the better off we are.  What I would like about it is I could be building a new group database and still be able to move on and update existing groups before Yahoo decided to kick me off.

Doesn't it already do this?  Isn't the Download Speed Limit option enabled when refreshing groups?

I'll try to explain this better and hopefully won't confuse everyone in the process :P

Suppose I have a few groups that I want to work on at a time, and I don't want to have to go through the whole list of groups to refresh, even if I've selected some groups to skip. Say one group has 17,000 messages, and another has 12.000, and yet another has 7,000. but I want to be able work on a few messages at a time from a small set of groups.

So it would work like this...

Group 1 downloads 250 messages. delay time runs for 65 minutes. PGO resumes refreshing and moves on to group 2 and it downloads 250 messages, delay time runs for 65 minutes, then PGO moves to the next group in the list, and so on.

Currently if I hit refresh all groups and I don't have it set to skip over the groups that I have not completed archiving, I'll have to wait for it to go through and download the 17,000 messages and then it would have to go through and download the next 12,000 messages and so on.

another option that would be cool is to be able to assign catagories to groups, and be able to refresh by catagory.

Tammi,

OK, we need a setting in File--> Download tab like this:

Only download nnn per group and loop xxx times or until finished []

Where you specify the number of messages per group in nnn & the number of times to go through the whole list in XXX or you can put a cross in the [] box to indicate that you want to loop until all messages are retrieved.

You can simulate 'refresh by category' now by putting your groups into separate databases.

Wilson.
