Title: Problems Downloading Groups
Post by: Bill Bradshaw on March 25, 2009, 06:41:47 PM
I was traveling for about 3 weeks so I did not download any groups.  I am now having problems downloading my groups.  Anybody else having a problem?  Have installed the latest version (3.0.67).

Hi Guys,

Which groups are a problem? All groups? Some groups? Just private groups?

We are investigating an IPF error thats happening on just one group. This could be the same thing.
If you can give me an example I can check it out.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Hi Wilson

I am having trouble downloading as well.

Started yesterday afternoon. After I just upgraded my Autocad to latest version.

That included a lot of new .net stuff as well. I don't know if this is significant.

26/03/2009 09:50:37 >  Authorization skipped
26/03/2009 09:50:38 >  Request number of messages
26/03/2009 09:50:39 >  Number of messages : 27625
26/03/2009 09:50:39 >  Receive message : 27608

long delay at this point

26/03/2009 10:04:08 >  Error : Invalid page format.
26/03/2009 10:04:08 >  Receive message : 27609

This happens on 2 different databases. I upgraded to latest version but still have the problem.

One clue maybe is that the software appears to lock for some time, possible minutes during which time the stop button does not work.

Regards

Ian

Wilson this is the same error i reported almost a week ago. It seems as if Yahoo has changed the page layout around and ur program isnt finding the right info... I need a fix pronto if possible as this software is critical for what i do - Its getting a bit frustrating that there seems to be so many bugs croping up.

I started seeing this problem yesterday.  I think it is happening on a variety of groups.  The one that download is hanging on right now is ASCOM-Talk, number of messages: 17004, Recieve message: 16958.  PGOffline has been frozen at this point for at least 10 minutes.

Must be a new Yahoo format or other blocking mechanism.  In my case, the first group had no new messages, and the second group is where things are hung up.  So, I've dowloaded nothing today.
This means it is not some sort of quota block by Yahoo.

Thanks,
Pete

A bit more information, this time on Gemini_Users:

3/26/2009 9:43:35 AM >  Set group's info (Gemini_Users)
3/26/2009 9:43:35 AM >  Authorization started
3/26/2009 9:43:36 AM >  Authorization accomplished
3/26/2009 9:43:36 AM >  Request number of messages
3/26/2009 9:43:36 AM >  Number of messages : 21763
3/26/2009 9:43:36 AM >  Receive message : 21756
<<< Long pause occurs here >>>
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Error : Invalid page format.
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Receive message : 21757
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Error : Message 21757 not exist.
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Receive message : 21758
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Error : Message 21758 not exist.
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Receive message : 21759
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Error : Message 21759 not exist.
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Receive message : 21760
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Error : Message 21760 not exist.
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Receive message : 21761
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Error : Message 21761 not exist.
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Receive message : 21762
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Error : Message 21762 not exist.
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Receive message : 21763
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Error : Message 21763 not exist.
3/26/2009 9:44:10 AM >  Receive complete

But I just checked the messages, by way of online yahoo access,
and messages 21756 through 21763 do exist.  Under group settings,
the high message is now reset to start at 21764, so I will need
to reset this back down to 21756 once the problem is fixed.

Running PGO v3.0.65

Thanks,
Pete

I'm having problems downloading all my groups.  Apparently Yahoo is moving the groups to a new data center.  They say they will have them moved by March 31.

Like other's have mentioned it seems to be effecting all my groups.  I'm getting the same errors listed above.

I am getting all of the above.  My groups are aerovee, sonexcanada, sonexplans and sonextalk.  It has been happening since the 25th of March.  I tried using IE and making sure I was logged into each of the groups but this didn't help.

I think its this problem previously mentioned.

http://www.ygroupsblog.com/blog/2009/03/19/even-groups-gets-the-hiccups/

I'll have a look at making a fix for it but with the groups system in transition I may be chasing a moving target.

Cheers,

Wilson.

They have changed things on us a couple of times before.  I can wait until things settle down.

Not so sure about that; the above refers to messages not appearing on Yahoo, but some of my groups have messages viewable directly on Yahoo that I'm unable to retrieve via PGOffline. I haven't checked all my groups (I have lots, and don't want to have to manually reset the "start receiving messages at number x" setting to get the messages once things settle down), but all the ones I've checked are affected. I get the same behavior others have mentioned: long delay, then either a time-out or an "invalid page." I think I have also received a "message not exist" for some groups..

I think its too much of a coincidence not to be this Yahoo move.

We're looking at it now but I'm loathe to make changes to PGO before Yahoo complete their data center move on the 31st.

Wilson.

Eh, for what is worth ... I'm seeing the same problem reported by others.  None of my groups will update.  It just seems to hang after message number is reported.... I'm not patient enough to wait for anyu additional error messages from PGO...

Guess I'll just be patient until after the transition at yahoo...

Well, we're looking at the cause of the program hang in case its something we can fix now.

Anything else will have to wait & be tested after March 31st.

Wilson.

I oringinally had PG Offline v. 2.5.47, and I only used it to update the TIMEWAVEZERO2012 Yahoo Group. The last time I successfully received new messages was on March 2, 2009. I tried to update the messages (Receive Messages option) a few days ago, and I got something like this:

3/29/2009 3:30:05 PM >  Set group's info (TIMEWAVEZERO2012)
3/29/2009 3:30:05 PM >  Authorization started
3/29/2009 3:30:07 PM >  Authorization accomplished
3/29/2009 3:30:07 PM >  Request number of messages
3/29/2009 3:30:08 PM >  Number of messages : 18202
3/29/2009 3:30:08 PM >  Receive message : 18103
3/29/2009 3:34:08 PM >  Error : Invalid page format.
3/29/2009 3:34:08 PM >  Receive message : 18104
3/29/2009 3:37:56 PM >  Error : Invalid page format.
3/29/2009 3:37:56 PM >  Receive message : 18105
3/29/2009 3:39:11 PM >  Time out. Receive stop.
3/29/2009 3:41:48 PM >  Error : Invalid page format.

Then it times out.

I upgraded to v. 3.0.67, but I'm experiencing exactly the same problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Jim.

Hi Jim,

We think its this:

http://www.ygroupsblog.com/blog/2009/03/19/even-groups-gets-the-hiccups/

If there's anything we can meaningfully do before March 31st we're looking at that now.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Now that I found this thread I see why my last successful download was March 23. It's times like these that I remember why I bought PGOffline to begin with, and I'm willing to wait for this excellent tool to be usable again.

The only thing I can add is that pgoffline25 pegs my CPU usage when trying to download, and the screen display is hung on the number of messages.

Best of luck with the update.

Hi Scott,

I'm glad to report that we've solved that issue but there are also format changes which we need to sort before we can release a new version.

Cheers,

Wilson.

I just found this yesterday..I was wondering why I couldn't receive any messages. I assume this is because Yahoo is changing to something new? Could you post something to let others know what is happening? Or did Imiss it? Thanks..Keithmj

Hi Keith,

Yahoo have made changes. We're creating a patch now.

I sent out a broadcast email a couple of days ago.

Did you get it?

Cheers,

Wilson.

Wilson,

If by 'broadcast' you mean everyone registered on the forum, or a customer who purchased PGO .....

I didn't see a recent email .... although, it's possible I missed it ...

Thanks for your efforts on problem, and the patch ... I'm looking forward to it.

Very funny Jim.

No we're not out of business, just struggling a bit with the technology.

Alex, the guy who wrote PGO (or to be accurate, was on the original team) maintained PGO until about 2 years ago. About 3 years ago he re-wrote the parser program in VC++ using Regexs. Now, I know neither VC++ nor Regexs. 2 years ago I got a new developer after Alex left and he doesn't know VC++ or Regexs either. PGO is written predominantly in VB. I actually think Alex re-wrote the parser because he wanted to learn VC++.

Anyway, the consequence was, when Yahoo made their changes we needed to change the parser and we don't know how. I got in a friend with VC++ & Regex experience but he was badly hurt in a car crash so we're back to learning VC++ & Regexs ourselves.

So, sorry for the delay.

Cheers,

Wilson.
