Title: invalid format
Post by: tppjr on January 28, 2006, 04:44:00 AM
Getting nothing but invalid format again.

This is getting to be a real pain in the butt.

Sorry about that but I have no control over Yahoo & what they may do to their message format. As you've no doubt experienced, it'll clear up on its own as they update their software. If it doesn't we'll issue a patch but what we won't do is chase a moving target i.e. we're not going to try & fix something that'll be gone in a week.

If Yahoo wasn't a free service you could log an issue with them but as it is we just have to put up with it.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Of my 20+ groups I have I can only download from 3 of them.  The rest still have the invalid page format.  Been over a month now.  I have not changed anything in my setup or on yahoo.  I am running 2.5.44.

Hi Thomas,

Can you tell me the names of one or two groups to test, preferrably public ones.

Thanks,

Wilson.

Wilson,

Give this one a try, unfortunately it is not a public list.

On my side, all groups are working fine, with one exception : scalenet
The command " Get group's list " doesn't work either.

Forget about 'scalenet' group.

The real error behind 'invalid page format' is that this group's archives are only available to moderators.

I identified by looking at the \log subdirectory : there was a MSCNT_scalenet_0.html file inside.

I do not think this is the case with me.  I could download all my groups witout any problems till one day then about a third of them would give me the invalid page error.  I do not think that all of those moderators decided to change their settings at the same time.

Thomas, the interesting part is PG Offline logging the faulty HTML received from Yahoo in the \log subdirectory.

This faulty HTML contained the real error message ("access restricted to moderators" in my case).

Maybe a similar HTML is also written to your \log and will provide more information about your specific problem.

Good point Clashjo but I think Thomas' problem is probably Yahoo server software related.

Hi Thomas, can you tell me a public group you're having trouble with? Just find a couple & try downloading them.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Wilson - FWIW, all of my public groups work fine. The moderated groups all get the invalid format error.

Hi Richard,

That sounds to me like an issue with authorisation. Can you try it with 'Skip Authorisation' (File--> Options--> Workflow) switched off & see what happens?

Cheers,

Wilson.

Wilson,

Yep, switching off the "Skip Authorization" option did the trick. Thanks.

OK Chaps,

Skip Authorisation uses your cached login info in IE. If you clear your IE cache or don't use IE, it won't work.

If you can't use it you're not missing much. I just introduced it because PGO logs in to each & every group one at a time when it does a Refresh. If you have 30 groups, most with only one or two messages, it can double the time for the Refresh. Having said that, we're talking about doubling it from 4 minutes to 8 minutes so its not the end of the world.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Hi Wilson

Well, the last fixed (2.5.45) solved the Invalid Format  problem for all of my groups (even restricted groups or adult group) except for one of them (an adult group also),
when trying  download it goes:

10/04/2006 04:44:06 p.m. >  Authorization skipped
10/04/2006 04:44:07 p.m. >  Request number of messages
10/04/2006 04:44:10 p.m. >  Error : Invalid page format.

I have tried skip authorization but isn't working, anything else I should try?

Hi,

Have you tried switching 'Skip Authorisation' off?

Have you tried switching 'Message Caching' off?

Cheers,

Wilson.

I've done both and continue to get the same error as well.  Only one group, erroneously defined as "adult" by Yahoo, moderated and the last message I was able to collect was dated Jan. 29, 2006.

I just upgraded with the most current patch hoping that would fix it, but, alas, it did not.  Now I'm stumped...   ???

Please mail me at

wilson.logan (at) ntlworld.com

and I'll send you some diagnostic stuff to run that will hopefully shine a light on the problem.

Cheers,

Wilson.
