Title: Use of PGO to steal archives
Post by: chas on March 30, 2005, 05:45:26 AM
I am using a trial version of PGO
it does not do anything.
I do not use any M$ mail client.  I do have XP Pro Off but my client is Agent by Forte.  my connection is thru a dsl
(SBC Yahoo) but all mail comes into Agent thru an isp, Texas.net.
point is, thiss is not being a typical "who needs a steenkin' manual??"  Instead, I am pretty much dead in the water.
Are there limits on this software?? as in no connection to the Yahoo My Groups??
Do I have to be using IE or OE?
other limitations?
instructional manual??

thanks
chas

Hi Chas,

You probably need to upgarde to the latest version (2.5.030). Look at the top of the page where it says

Beta patch for Yahoo changes available here

Click on the word "here" and download & install the patch.

If you've already done this & it still doesn't work, please send me a screenshot of whats on the PG Offline screen when you try & download.

BTW have you read the info page? http://www.pgoffline.com/info.htm

Thanks,

Wilson.

just did but it leaves lots of questions.
I ASSUME that this software works with any net browser?
and so on.  I am talking with you offlist about several of these and other issues.  mostly, the use of this software by people to steal copyrighted material and use it to publish the messages into books, etc.

thanks

Hi Chas,

No, it ONLY works with IE 5.0 (or later). You can use any browser you want but you must at least have IE installed. This is because PGO uses components of IE to display & retrieve messages.

Normally if you have a Windows operating system there is no problem as IE & Access (developer components) comes with every copy of Windows.

If you have the latest version of PGO (which is 2.5.030, see Help--> About), then PGO should work. It may not work if:

1) You have uninstalled IE

2) You have uninstalled Access

3) You have a firewall which prevents PGO from accessing the internet.

4) You have not selected any groups to download.

Are you getting any error messages in PGO when you try to connect?

Cheers,

Wilson.
