Title: External mail client - Agent
Post by: lorraine on June 08, 2004, 11:13:56 AM
Has anyone been able to get Agent to work as an external mail client?  I am using the pay version of Agent - not Free Agent.  I get different errors dependent upon which computer I'm on - laptop or desktop.  I'm currently on laptop and the error I get is "Unknown command line switch: "/mailurl".   I will add the desktop error to this thread when I get home later today.

Thinking about this, I'm using different versions of Agent also.  Laptop is running version 1.93/32.576 while destop is running the latest build of version 2.  That probably explains the difference in error messages.

WinXP Home on laptop, WinXP Pro on desktop.
PGO version 2.5.10 on both computers.  I've been trying it with every PGO version since it appeared as an option with no luck.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Lorraine

lorraine,

Can you send us value of the
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command

registry key?

(Start -> Run : regedit; than just navigate to specified key).

"C:\Program Files\Agent\agent.exe" -home:MailIniFile -url:%1

This is from the laptop.

lorraine,

Thanks! We will add 'Agent' support to one of the next PG Offline releases.

Great!  Thanks.

I'm home now and checked to see the differences between the two.  With Agent 2.0/32.652 and WinXP Pro, the error is "Attempt to access ResourceFile before Resources::Init() was called."

The registry key contained the same data.

Thanks again.

Alex,

Would you take a look at Mozilla 1.6 as the external mail agent?  I've switched for Forte Agent to Mozilla for the automatic spam feature.

When I try to use Mozilla as the external email client, I get a quick Mozilla splash screen and then Mozilla closes.

You can download Mozilla for testing, it's a freebie.
