As we start archiving more and more mailing lists, the db3 database is expanding. Any tips on how to whittle it down? If we export a few mailing lists to mySQL and then remove the Groups from our List will that reduce the size? And how can we later use PGOffline to read it again?
To make the database smaller you can split your groups into a database per group.
Do File -> Export to folder for each group.
Now you have a .pg4 archive file for each group.
Do File -> New database. Add Master Login details.
Exit program, make copies of new database, one per group. Name them appropriately.
Start PGO, do File -> Open database. Choose "List", add your group.
Do File -> Import from folder for the appropriate group archive.
Rince, repeat.
Wilson, a volunteer did not export her Groups and her DB3 is now 8GB and she's struggling to get it open. Any tips?
Another Database question:
Does the PGO database contain the files, photos, attachments, links? I know when we export the PG4 files it only has messages and we have to include files, photos, attachments, links from the respective group folders when sharing.
The database contains attachments as blob fields.
So if someone attaches a 2Gb video... its now in your database.
I've never come across an 8GB database.
Maybe split it in four by exporting 25% of messages into four PG4 files and then import them into four new groups.
if you can't get it open consider using SQLite Studio.
