Title: database maintenance
Post by: ginahoy on May 11, 2004, 08:01:11 PM
Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I recently decided to delete two large groups that I downloaded from pgo's ftp site to free up some disk space. However, I noticed my mdb file didn't drop in size (240 Mb).  Apparently, Access stores deleted records until the database is compacted.
Fortunately, I have MS Access 2k, so I used the Compact Database utility to purge the records (it droped to 157 Mb).

Since many pgo users don't have Access, it might be useful to add a "compact database" utility to pgo.

OTOH, the database may have purged itself automatically if I had given it a chance. Does anyone know if this is the case?

David,

We're researching adding the facility to compact the DB from within PGO.

Cheers,

Wilson.
