Title: Attachments
Post by: Lmarks on October 17, 2019, 02:52:09 AM
Dumb question, but not addressed in the help.

I am capturing everything from the group as it (like the others) is evaporating.

Files and attachments were unavailable up until an hour ago, so I downloaded messages in the interim. When Files suddenly became available I downloaded them because there were only six or seven.

Attachments are now available but I cannot figure out how to download them. The help only covers suppressing download, not making it happen. Given that I have the messages, what is the easiest way to get the attachments and have them linked?

I am not averse to deleting the local database since I have a true 100 Mb/s connection both ways and re-download is very quick.

When you click on File > Export To Folder, check the "Copy Attachments" box in the next window (below the field containing your Group name).

In my case the folder C:\Users\Tom\AppData\Local\PG Offline 4\Attachments is empty. Even though some of the messages on Y!G when filtered there for those with attachments actually have attachments (many are missing). May be the same issue as with Photos on Y!G - I've checked a few groups and some  return no images, some just a smattering.

If attachments are now available and you want to re-download the messages to get the attachments, start a new database

Choose File

then New Database.

Add the groupname to the database using List and then re-download from scratch.

The alternative is to delete the messages from the original database and re-download.

Wilson.
Title: It's working (sort of)
Post by: Lmarks on October 17, 2019, 04:38:49 PM
At the Yahoo website, attachments are sort of available. Sometimes you get an error and have to re-try. (There are a couple of different errors showing up, maybe reflecting the enhanced workload due to the closure announcements.)

In order to successfully download attachments, I am practicing the following (tedious) scheme, but it is working.

There are typically three errors per 20 messages. This scheme is getting me there by only having to deal with a few errors on each cycle. Minimizes the chance of me making a mistake.

Title: Anomaly
Post by: Lmarks on October 17, 2019, 04:45:04 PM
When I was in the Army, there were no bugs, just anomalies.

When I use Group Settings to specify messages 221-240, the screen reports
11:42:29 [NC_LTRGs] Downloaded and adding messages '221' through '252'.
although only messages 221-240 are actually downloaded.

Funny arithmetic?

Messages can be deleted by the group owner.

Right click on the group and choose "Missing Messages Report".

Yes, I knew that. Our users never did understand that hitting Reply in their mailers did NOT send a personal reply to the OP. I regularly pruned the list in which a useful post was followed by "Thanks for posting that," or "Can you call me?" I was expecting missing posts and did indeed see them.

The job is now finished. There were about 100 attachments that did not download successfully on the first try. Some took three or four tries.

I'll be signing up while I figure out what to do next. I fear that if I go to groups.io, they won't move the attachments across as carefully as I have.

Thanks for your help. I will be signing up as promised.

Congrats! I'm surprised, too, that you got them all. I've tried multiple times just to see them on the Yahoo site. If I can't get them to show, I don't expect PBO or  Gio to be able to fetch them.

Unfortunately, they can't copy any attachments, so you're way ahead of the game!
