I downloaded and installed the Windows XP version of "pg-offline-4.0.823-full.exe" on my Windows XP SP3 computer. At the end of the installation, when it launched the program I got the error message "PG Offline.exe is not a valid Win32 application." When I try to launch the "PG Offline.exe" file directly through Start/Run, I get the same message.
Thanks for any help in getting this to run.
I should add that I am using Windows XP SP3 32bit not 64bit. Maybe 32bit is not supported?
32 bit should be OK.
I asked the developer to specifically test on XP SP3 recently and he said it worked.
I will ask him about whether it was 32 or 64 bit. I'd have thought it was 32 bit.
And this is a PC you're running it on, not a Mac or Linux or an emulation?
Cheers,
Wilson.
Thank you for your reply Wilson. No, it is a PC, not emulation.
I have not had the problem running any other programs, except if I try to run a 64 bit program on this 32 bit OS. If I do that I think that it may give me that same error message. So I am wondering if it is somehow related to a problem with 64 versus 32 bit. I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't work.
Hmmm... not sure what's happening.
Did you have r822 running successfully on your machine?
Cheers,
Wilson.
I think I missed installing the last few beta versions. I think the last beta version that I tried and it worked was 4.0.800.572.
I don't think I have tried any versions after that. But I do think I downloaded at least some of them.
If I try the older betas I downloaded now to see if I can determine if any of them work, would they possibly be timed out at this point? If not I can try them to see if I can shed any light on which version the problem started with.
I just tried installing pg-offline-4-0-821. It seems to install fine, but had the same error when I tried to run it. So the problem goes back at least that far.
I can't attach the file I installed because it is too large. But the MD5 checksum of the file is:
3C7CD9332281BC3A821E0D2F6171F939
Hopefully I was using the correct file for this OS in my test.
I'll find an XP system and try the latest version out on it to see if I can replicate the problem.
Cheers,
Wilson.
Thanks Wilson! Hope you can replicate it.
No pressure at all intended. Just checking in to say hi. :D :D :D
Nudge, nudge, wink wink, nod nod, say no more, say no more ... :D :D :D
Where's that whistling motie when you need it?! heeheeee ;)
I've asked the developer (this morning as it happens) to create a new build using Dot Net 4.0 which is, I believe, the last certified version of Dot Net for XP.
I'll post a link to it here as soon as its available.
Cheers,
Wilson.
Thanks so much Wilson! That's awesome! :D
HI,
Apparently we cannot make a version with 4.0 because some of our components depend on later versions of Dot Net.
We might be able to make a version with 4.5 which ought to be better because I think the real problem is 4.5.2
Cheers,
Wilson.
Thank you...
But I don't think XP supports .NET 4.5. If that's correct, then I am not sure what the advantage of making a version with 4.5 would be versus whatever version of .NET you had before.... at least not an advantage with respect to supporting XP.
So maybe XP cannot be supported by PGOL going forward?
It will depend on what components we have to sacrifice in order to use Dot Net 4.0
What was the last version that worked for you?
Thanks,
Wilson.
The last version that I tried that I am sure worked was 4.0.800.572.
But I may have missed some versions after that that may have worked but I never tried them. Is there somewhere I can download previous betas so I can determine if there were any versions after that that worked? Although I am not sure if they would be timed out or not...so even if they worked, maybe their trial period would be timed out now. Not sure how that works.
I know that version 821 did not work, but I don't have the versions between 572 and 821 to try.
Well, all the old versions are at:
http://www.personalgroupware.com/groupmanager/xxxx
where xxxx is the file name which you will find in the attached picture.
Although if you've tried 572 the only versions intermediate to 821 are
813, 817, 818, 819, 820
Cheers,
Wilson.
Thanks again Wilson...
I'm going to have to make a deduction here.
It appears that pg-offline-4.0.817-x86.exe is the first version with the problem that I wrote this thread about. So something in that version was changed that I think makes it not run on Windows XP.
I'm 85% sure this is correct.
The only reason that I am not 100% sure is that I also cannot get any versions previous to 817 to work. But I don't think that is related to the same issue because they don't generate any error messages like 817 and after do, they just launch and then the process stops. I am deducing that is because they are time limited and they are past the 90 days or whatever that they are designed to work so they just don't run.
OK, that's probably true (about the time limit).
So I'll see if I can find out what was added between 813 & 817.
Cheers,
Wilson.
My pc has Windows XP, Service Pack 3 on it. The last version that my pc was able to open was 4.0.808. Since then all the versions I've tried beginning with 4.0.812 just has a pop-up saying "PG Offline.exe is not a valid Win32 application." when I try to open them. Each time I uninstalled the previous version before installing the new one & did a restart. I hope this helps toward a version that will work.
Thanks for your update.
Currently we are working to get a final release of PG Offline which includes the registration facility.
Almost all major functionality has been implemented or repaired as necessary.
Once there is a fully working version, we will attempt to make an XP compliant version.
Thanks,
Wilson.
I have tasked the no.2 developer with making an XP version and this is now his main task.
Thanks much Wilson. Looking forward to giving it a try when ready.
