I need Help ! / How to create a .pg4 file for others to import?
« Last post by cv-david on July 03, 2020, 07:23:04 AM »
I had a colleague who wanted to get my archive of this group (one among many which I have in my copy of PG Offline).

I had made archives (.pg4 files) of two other forums  previously (I know I did as I still have zip files showing the .pg4 file) to share with other colleagues.

But going back into the software, I can not recall how I'd done that.  I've checked the FAQ and the forum, looking for "archive", "create archive" and even just ".pg4" and only find info on importing the archive, not how to create it. Am I missing something?

There is the "Export" feature, but that doesn't give any obvious way to create a .pg4 file for someone to import.

I know it's possible, but I'm really scratching my head on how I'd done this before.

Many thanks if you can point me in the right direction.

Email me your unique code.

You can find your code in Help --  Product Registration.

The Help menu option, not the Help button !

Hi Mick,

I got a couple of narrow gauge groups but not that one.

Did any of them transfer to ?

You could join one of those on and then ask around.

Add me to the list of those interested in a solution for offline archiving - also happy to pay a sub :-)

Same here.  I bought a license years ago but have changed systems too many times and can't find it now.  How to retrieve it?

I'm using a trial PG Offline program. I believe I had a licence years ago but can't find it. Don't remember if I paid $25.00 for licence.

You would need to approach a group member who has either:

a) Downloaded the group with PGO

b) Downloaded the MBOX format archive which was offered by Yahoo for a limited period after they deleted the group data.
Can I still obtain an archive of the group?  If so, how?
No.   Yahoo has switched the groups data display service off (and by now they've probably deleted the actual groups data).

You need to get either a PG4 archive of your group(s) to load into PGO or a Yahoo archive of the group which also can be loaded into PGO.
