Hi all,

I am running Win98 and FireFox.

I just got a new hard drive and am installing my old programs and guess what.. ?

dhtmled.ocx  error.

It shows in my c:\windows\system folder.
not in my \system32\ folder

I ran the program

regsvr32.exe C:\Windows\System32\dhtmled.ocx.

well, not that line, it has a bug.

it cannot end with a period.

I did run that line as above but just \system\ and not \system32\

Should I copy it to \system32\ and try again ?

Hi Dave,

I?m not up much on Win98. What happened when you registered it to /system ?

If it didn?t work you may like to try the fix for Win98 from Microsoft:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q226326/

Its technically a fix for IE but it?s a system file so it will work for Firefox also.

Cheers,

Wilson.

I took a shot and copied the file to system32.  nada.

ran the regedit command, it came up as good.

still get the error.

In reading the Microsoft page, I am not sure what to do.
I get the idea that it wants me to install some version of IE

Hi Dave,

PG Offline uses components of IE 5 to do its thing. You dont ever need to run IE but it has to be there. I think its there as standard in Win2k, XP, etc but I think its not shipped as standard in earlier versions of 98. It might be part of Win98SE Final for example.

I guess you can install IE 5 (or later) or install a more up to date version of 98.

Cheers,

Wilson.

Dave,
I have Win98SE running PGO (Under VPC on a Mac !). I looked at DHTMLED.ocx I have two copies on my machine.

1) File Size 117760 Date 5 jan 05 in c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TRIEDIT This is file version 6.01.9231

2) File Size 116224 Date 23 Aug 2001 in c:\windows\system This is file version 6.01.9102

When I ran regedit the Triedit version was found in quite a few keys, the windows\system wasn't. When I came to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs the Trideit version had a decimal value 10000 and the windows\sytem version has a decimal value of 1

Hopefully this may help you to diagnose your problem.

OK, so I went onto Microsofts site and tried to install IE 6.

It got about 1/4 of the way into the install and then said it wanted some file.....

So, it crashed the install.

The good news is PGOffline is now running on my new hard drive.

So, although it is working, I can't say exactly what did it.

and, I hate crashed installs......   you never know what has been changed or lost or whatever....
