So, there are a couple of things that can stop a successful login to YG!

1) Have you got the latest version which is 4.0.897 ?

http://www.personalgroupware.com/groupmanager/pg-offline-4-0-897.zip

2) Check your login details !

3) Switch off Two factor authentication.

4) PGO uses Firefox. You can login to YG! using Chrome & it all looks fine but PGO sees a Firefox challenge page.

E.g. “Please verify your phone number”.

The fix is to login using Firefox, complete the challenge, log out, back in again (make sure its fixed) then start PGO.

5) In a small number of cases, your ISP has a deal with Yahoo to serve a different set of pages than PGO expects (Typically AT&T accounts: SBCglobal, Roadrunner, etc).

If this is the case you will need to create a new YG! account with a Gmail or Hotmail account and re-join all your groups.

I've been trying to get PGO working with Yahoo since I installed 4.0.887 after I had to rebuild the Windows 10 system (for other reasons) and forgot to add it.  I'm still seeing the subject problem.

I shut down the PGO app, closed out all Yahoo tabs in my Firefox Browser and also deleted all the Yahoo cookies.  I then logged in to Yahoo (using the "sign in" link on groups.yahoo.com.  I was able to successfully log in to my account.

After starting up PGO and trying to get a list of my groups, I get the login failed error.  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

That seems to have done it.  I'm downloading content now.

Thank you.

I am also having trouble getting PGOffline to log into you yahoo group.  Here is the error log:
PG Offline 4.0.897
2:48:09 PM Days left for trial use - 28
2:52:34 PM Getting list of user groups
2:52:34 PM User - xxxxxx@yahoo.com
2:52:49 PM Login failed. Either you have the wrong username & password OR Yahoo is requesting that you update your current password. Please login to Yahoo groups with your browser to see if Yahoo are requesting that you update your password.

Waterfox (Firefox 56) logs into my yahoo account with no problem.  Firefox 69.03 also has no trouble logging me in.  2 level authentication is not turned on.

This is on a Windows 7 workstation with plenty of ram and hard drive space.

I even tried opening ports 3588 that PGO uses but that did not help.

Since this is the latest PGOffline and it was just installed a few days ago and no previous version has been on this machine why would it not log me in?

I am going through  Verizon as my ISP.

Thank you.

If you're technical you can switch on traffic logging which shows you the HTML that PGO is being served by YG.

If so,   go into Files -- > Options -- > Miscellaneous  and check the “Log traffic to file option” and create a file called traffic.txt in

C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local\PG Offline 4\traffic.txt

Then try to do one “LIST”. Then stop PGO, rename the traffic.txt to traffic.htm  and open it in a browser.

Then you can see any errors or challenges being served back to PGO from YG.
Cheers,

Wilson.

Thank you for the help Wilson.  As you know,  the traffic.txt or traffic.html file showed that PGO is getting hit with the Verizon Oath which I refuse to accept.  I have it set to "do later" and neither version of Firefox that I currently run gets presented with that Oath screen since I had previously told them I would do it later.  When I first posted this I was running Waterfox (Firefox 56) and Firefox 69.  Now it is Firefox 70.0.1 (latest).

Is there any way to feed the "I will do it later" response back to the Oath?

Thank you.

Not without some serious dev involvement.

Given that there is a work around, namely, clear cookies & cache and then agree to the OATH challenge, I can't say that I'm keen to devote dev time to this.

We're working on porting YG to phpBB, Wordpress and non-premium Groups.io

We may get to it eventually but time is not on our side.

After not using PG Offline for about a week (I'm using the licensed version), I'm again getting the dreaded "login failed" message. I've checked and triple checked my user name and password, as well as that two-factor authentication is turned off. (Specifically, the Two-step Verification button on the Security page of my Account Info page is gray.)

Yet I can't get past the message.

I logged a List attempt, and the resulting traffic.html file shows the Yahoo Sign In page, prompting for my email address. See the attachment.

I checked for updates, and installed version 4.0.902. And get the same error message.

How can I resolve this?

Thanks!
Don

It figures. After trying for an hour or two, all of a sudden it starts working again with no new changes.

False alarm, I guess.

Very mysterious.

BTW its always worth clearing the Firefox browser cache & cookies before doing a traffic file.

Wilson.

We're seeing the same problem - have followed the instructions (2-factor off etc) ..the traffic log says

"Request: https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.src=fpctx&.intl=&.done=https%3A%2F%2Fgroups.yahoo.com%2F 10:01:30 PM

Response:

(the response is blank)

edited: Windows 7, Firefox 71 (most recent and was able to login without running into any challenge), updated PGOffline to 4.0.902.

edited 2: I wonder if it is because Yahoo has removed the "allow less secure apps to sign in option" https://help.smallbusiness.yahoo.net/s/question/0D52L000032kspySAA/i-dont-see-the-enable-less-secure-apps-in-account-security-and-i-need-it-so-i-can-setup-on-outlook

edited 3: tried generating an 3rd party app password but that too did not work

Try going to the latest version

http://www.personalgroupware.com/groupmanager/pg-offline-4-0-907.zip

I doubt that will help though.

I'm still able to download but that only means I haven't been hit with the change you have....

If you open a browser and put this in as a URL what do you get?

https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.src=fpctx&.intl=&.done=https%3A%2F%2Fgroups.yahoo.com%2F

I tried it in Chrome & Firefox and I get the Yahoo login page as expected.

Cheers,

Wilson.

<s>To update to the version, do I have to uninstall PGOffline (since it says I have the latest version 4.0.902 using the in-app updates)</s>

edited: you were correct the update did not fix the problem

Both Firefox and Chrome take me to the login page
